My Losman Quest

In Late 1996, when I found Losman's site (www.losman.com), I have been making it a goal to watch everyone one of the movies on the "Most Disturbing an Vile movie list".  I even made up spreadsheets and graphs with goals to watch all of these movies within a specified time.  I even spent allot of money to get these movies.  Some of them were bootlegs on EBay in VHS (DVD was not popular then).

Anyways, I do not know what happened to Losman.  His pages can still be found at http://www.waybackmachine.org/.  His site has been down for quite some time (since 2003 I think).  Any news of who he was or where he might be?  E-mail me at "REMOVEproducerREMOVETHISCRAP@imhz.com."

Well it has been a very long task, and here is a synopsis of my findings.  I have seen all but only a few.

I use a similar star rating that does not rate the quality, script, or special effects, but rather the emotionally impact on my mind. (1-5 stars)

1. A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971) *****
A great film by Stanley Kurbrik and Malcolm Mcdowell. I found this movie very entertaining, with awesome fight scenes and realistic violence. The only real disturbing part was the brutal rape scene during a home invasion.

2. AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD (1972) ****
Its tough making it through a movie with subtitles, but this movie was really great. It was very depressing and very realistic. This was Klaus Kinski's best work.

3. ANTHROPOPHAGUS (1981) AKA THE GRIM REAPER **
I bought an edited version of this movie. I found it entertaining, yet it did not grab me like I expected. I think the scenes were badly edited, taking away the effect of the movie. (looking for an uncut version)

4. BAD TASTE- (1988) *****
Peter Jackson's best work (and first). One of the best movies to watch with a group of friends. Very action oriented, very violent and gory, and very funny.

5. BEGOTTEN (1991) ****
Maya Deren would be proud. Begotten is black and white distorted images. It looks like it could have come from the nineteenth century. However, the sound is crystal clear, minus the sync and the addition of calm nature sounds. This movie was very critical of the struggles of life. It shows a single mother and child in a violent world that thrives on the innocent. The mother is very oblivious to her surroundings. This leads to lots of torture, pain, and death. You may watch it many times and see different symbolisms, plot devices, and basically "what does it mean?". If you appreciate art in movies then you will love it. Otherwise, don't bother.

6. BEYOND, THE (1981) ITALY AKA SEVEN DOORS OF DEATH *****
Great film. Very spooky and cinematically wonderful. One of the Best Horror movies I have seen.

7. BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS -(1977) *
I purchased this movie. I liked the cheesy effects, and the plot. However, watching women get tortured got old quick.

8. BLUE VELVET (1986) ***
Great movie, and very strange. Dennis Hoppers best work.

9. BOXING HELENA (1993) **
This was OK. High Drama with a twist. It was just interesting enough to keep me watching.

10. BROOD, THE (1979) CANADA **
Entertaining, yet was not the emotional grab that I thought it was. The acting played a big role in me not believing the plot. Cronenberg's other movies rate higher with me on the disturbed factor.

11. BURIED ALIVE AKA BLUE HOLOCAUST - (1979) ITALY AKA BUIO OMEGA ***
Freaky effects and was really impressed with the plot and acting.

12. CALIGULA - (1980) US ****
Very disturbing. I read a lot on the history of the movie, and I am amazed that Malcolm McDowell still says that all the awful scenes were edited in after the fact. The long sex scenes got boring, but the acting by McDowell and gore scenes were incredible.

13. CANNIBAL APOCALYPSE (1980) AKA APOCALISSE DOMANI ***
I like John Saxon's work in this was really fun and gory film. Great movie to watch with friends. I was disappointed with a really crappy ending.

14. CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST (1979) ITALY *****
One of the vilest movie I have seen. Too many rape scenes and animal torture for me. It seemed to have affected my for a few weeks after viewing.

15. COMBAT SHOCK -(1984) US **
Very long, terrible, plain, boring. But I give it the fact that it was depressing. I will never forget that baby.

16. CRASH (1996) CANADA ****
Great movie. I was totally enthralled by it, wondering what was going to happen next. Violent and Sexy at the same time.

17. DARKNESS (1993) US
Looking for this

18. DEAD ALIVE (1992) NEW ZEALAND AKA BRAINDEAD ****
The bloodiest movie I have seen. Peter Jackson made this very funny and gory. Very easy to follow, and is a must see for any gore fan.

19. DELIVERENCE (1972) US ***
Very powerful movie. Heck I don't need to review this classic.

20. DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE (1994) ITALY AKA CEMETERY MAN ****
One of the funniest Zombie movies I have seen. I bought it after seeing it, and have watched it too many times to really appreciate it as much as I first did. But this movie made a great initial impression on me.

21. DER TODESKING (1989) AKA DEATH KING, THE
Looking for this

22. DESPERATE LIVING (1977) **
A another funny movie by John Waters. Really had no big impact on me though.

23. DOOM GENERATION (1995) US ****
Very disturbing. The acting was so realistic, that it had me feeling sick. Got more than what I expected with really graphic scenes. There was a few boring parts.

24. DR. BUTCHER M.D. (1979) AKA REGINA DEI CANNIBALI, LA AKA ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST ***
Funny movie with Zombies and Cannibals. Gory ending.

25. EATEN ALIVE (1980) AKA EMERALD JUNGLE **
Pretty dumb, yet entertaining because of its cheesy effects, acting, and the script..

26. EL TOPO (1971) MEXICO ****
Very strange movie. Artsy, and the weirdness is just too incredible. Jodorowsky's best work tied with Santa Sagre.

27. ERASERHEAD (1976) US ***
Pretty good. This movie was a little long and boring, but the weirdness made up for it.

28. FREAKS (1930) ***
Really strange. Especially for its time.

29. GATES OF HELL (1980) ITALY AKA CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD***
A good, and frightening movie. Seeing people cry blood was a spectacular effect. This movie freaked me out for a few weeks.

30. HENRY, PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER (1986) ****
Really awesome movie. Could not take my eyes away. Another movie with no redeeming value, sweet.

31. HOLY MOUNTAIN (1974) MEXICO ***
Another Jodorowsky movie with strange images. Not bad.

32. I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE -(1980) US ***
Some really disturbing rape scenes, and awesome revenge. Made me feel a little depressed about all the scum bags on this earth. Reminded me of Last house on the Left.

33. ILSA, SHE WOLF OF THE SS (1974) US ***
Pretty strange seeing Nazi women torturing innocent people. But what the hell, it was funny.

34. IN A GLASS CAGE -(1986) SPAIN *****
Pretty darn sick. Pedophilia galore. Strange that I rented this from blockbuster.

35. IRON MAN- TETSUO, THE (1990) JAPAN ***
Just plain weird. Kind of reminded me of Eraserhead, without a plot (if that is possible).

36. JACOB'S LADDER (1990) US ****
Freaky. I saw it in the theater years ago.

37. JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN (1971) US
Looking for it

38. JUNGLE HOLOCAUST (1978) ITALY AKA ULTIMO MONDO CANNIBALE ***
Just another cannibal movie. How many of these did they make back then?

39. KALIFORNIA (1994) US **
Did nothing for me. Liked the action/violence scenes, but I never got into the plot.

40. KIDS - (1995) US *****
Top of my sick list as far as kids go.

41. LABRATORY OF THE DEVIL -(1990) CHINA AKA MAN BEHIND THE SUN 2
Looking for it.

42. LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT -(1972) US ***
Just another icky movie. It was real depressing having those poor kids getting killed. I thought the chainsaw scene could have been done better. I was also hoping for more vengeful parents; they seemed to back off a little.

43. LOST HIGHWAY (1996) US **
Did nothing big for me. Maybe I should watch this again more carefully.

44. LOVE ME DEADLY -(1972) US
Looking for it.

45. LUTHER THE GEEK (1990) ***
A really creative movie. However, I think the version I saw was slightly cut. It did not appear too gory to me. It was not just another slasher film.

46. MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY AKA CANNIBAL FEROX ITALY *****
This is another one that sits aside Cannibal Holocaust.

47. MAN BEHIND THE SUN -(1988) CHINA *****
I am in debate with myself as this being the sickest movie ever made. It contains a real child autopsy and animal torture.

48. MAN BITES DOG- (1992) BELGIUM ****
I love documentaries, and I loved this movie. There is a brutal child killing in one scene. It was tough watching subtitles, but I loved the scene where he kills the hit man that also has a documentary crew following him. Wish I could find this in English.

49. MANIAC (1980) US ***
What a sick movie. Killing women all the time does not appeal to me. But the effects and the twisted acting were incredible. Tom Savini made this movie great.

50. MEET THE FEEBLES-(1989) New Zealand **
This is a great movie, but hey, its puppets. Sure its disturbing, but only to a satirist level.

54. NATURAL BORN KILLERS-(1994) ***
This movie was one of the best horror / comedies I have seen.

56. NEKROMANTIK 2 (1991) GERMANY
Still looking for this Movie

57. NEW YORK RIPPER (1982) AKA RIPPER, THE ***
Great crime film that totally surprised me at the end. Its nice to see a zombie director make a crime story as a change. What was with the duck though?

58. PIECES (1981) SPAIN ***
Really good 80's slasher movie. It was great watching it late at night.

59. PINK FLAMINGOS (1972) US ****
John Waters goes over the top here. Fun movie made with no budget.

60. REPULSION
Looking for it.

61. SALO, 120 DAYS OF SODOM -(1977) ITALY *****
One of, it not, the most vile and disgusting movie I have ever seen. The constant homosexual rape, and shit eating scenes made me want to throw up. I am one of those that can not understand how there is any artistic value in this film.

62. SANTA SANGRE (1989) MEXICO ****
Great film with a great visual experience. I was really amazed at the ending and the bleak type feeling I had when I watched this.

point. I love it when I movie ends like that.
